Why Australian conditions matter

All-Flow's gutter guard is engineered specifically for Australian conditions, harsh sun, heavy storms and bushfire risk that many imported or generic products aren't designed to handle.

Plastic and PVC gutter guards are a common budget choice, but they tend to perform poorly over time. Australian sun causes plastic to become brittle and warp within a few years, and once warped it sags into the gutter, creating a trap for leaves and pooling water rather than a barrier against them. Plastic also melts or burns easily, so in a bushfire, embers can burn straight through it and ignite the leaf litter trapped underneath. And because it's soft, birds and rodents can chew through plastic mesh to nest in the warm space beneath your roofline. Powder-coated aluminium, by comparison, expands and contracts with your roof without warping or degrading, which is why All-Flow uses aluminium rather than plastic.

Mesh with holes larger than around 5mm lets leaves, twigs and seed pods slip straight through, defeating the purpose and leaving debris trapped where it's hard to clear. Mesh with holes smaller than around 1mm can cause the opposite problem, water tension makes rain sheet over the top instead of draining in, and the tiny holes clog with dirt and pollen over time. A mid-range aperture, generally between 2mm and 4mm, breaks water tension so gutters drain properly while still keeping debris and pests out. A finer aperture around 2mm is also what's required under AS 3959 for ember guard mesh in bushfire-prone areas, which is why All-Flow's woven mesh option is CSIRO tested and used for BAL-compliant installations.
